BayBUG was formed on 16th May 2001 and became incorporated during September 2004.

BayBUG is affiliated with Bicycle New South Wales and work with them and other Bicycle User Groups (BUGs) to improve cycling conditions in Sydney. Communication occurs with local councils, the RMS and other bodies that provide for cyclists.

With constant advocacy of residents and peak groups like Bicycle NSW, it is possible to make positive influences such as bike lanes on roads and bike racks at shopping centres.
